My Rowing Story

Hi, my name is Abby Andrews!

I created this website to share the amazing impact that rowing has on the lives of so many people, including myself.

When I was a senior in high school, I was diagnosed with Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome. From the moment I was diagnosed with this disease, my life changed. I could not go to school and participate in any activities I loved. My mental health also started to decline. A few months into being bedridden, I read about the wonderful story, The Boys in the Boat. This story of perseverance helped me gain the strength to overcome my injury. As I recovered, I delved into more rowing stories throughout history. They all shared the common themes of hard work, teamwork, passion, and determination.

I suddenly realized my goal of wanting to be a part of a rowing team in college. Luckily, with the help of friends, family, and doctors, I was able to see that dream come to fruition. I am currently a rower at Pacific Lutheran University.

That is my story. I know that many others share similar stories to mine; rowing is a sport that leaves all who are involved changed for the better. Please click on the tab above to read more amazing stories from past/current rowers, coxswains, or coaches who have been positively impacted by rowing :)
